Suggestions on this site usually only hit the high points so the following is presented for the un-learned to avoid senseless repitition

IP addresses used are bogus. If you see an IP address you don't recognize, use your own.
User generated file names used in examples are bogus. Use your own file names
A given path like /path/to/the/file/ is bogus. Your file system probably doesn't have those directory names. Use your own.
Usernames and Passwords are bogus. Use your own
Procedures are not always complete. If the example says to enter something, enter that something and then press the "Enter" key, or select the next field item, etc.
Configuration examples are not always complete. After making changes find the place on the screen to save those changes before moving on, or take the next logical step.
Lists of options is not complete; only the ones I find most useful. If you need option lists, you should be in the man/info/help/apropos pages, not here.
