Initial settings and after reset:

Router (RT) mode (Mode switch in forward position)

In Router mode, the DWL-G730AP functions as a wireless router. (WAN-LAN)

The wired port connects to a DSL/Cable modem. The DWL-G730AP becomes a wireless router

To configure the DWL-G730AP in Router mode, you must be connected to it via a wireless network adapter. The LAN Port on the unit functions as a WAN port when the DWL-G730AP is operating in Router mode, therefor it is internet-facing and access to the web-interface is blocked.

Client Mode (Mode switch in middle position)

The DWL-G730AP connects to the LAN port on your computer. game console, etc. and acts like a wireless adapter card.

In Client mode, the DWL-G730AP cannot connect to just any wireless access point, even if the wireless LAN is open and broadcasting. The DWL-G730AP must first be set to the specific SSID and channel of the wireless LAN. Also, if the wireless network is using mac filtering remember the MAC address presented will be that of the host computer's LAN adapter, not that of the DWL-G730AP.

There is a Site Survey function but it is only accessible throught the web interface.

To access the DWL-G730AP use one of two methods.

  1. Add a static route (route add 192.168.0.30 eth0)
  2. Configure the LAN interface adapter to static for network 192.168.0.0 and after the DWL-G730AP is configured, change the interface adapter to dhcp

Communicate with the DWL-G730AP using a java script aware browser (at default IP 192.168.0.30, user name admin, no password)

Access Point (AP) Mode (Mode switch in rear position)

In Access Point mode the DWL-G730AP functions as a wireless access point with no routing i.e. a wireless switch. (LAN-LAN)

The wired port connects to a wired router/hub/switch and provides wireless access.

The Access Point is capable of acting as a DHCP server. The DHCP settings can be enabled to allow the Access Point to assign IP addresses to other devices in the wireless local area network.

You can access the configuration menu, at any time, by opening a web-browser and typing in the IP address of the DWL-G730AP.
